Wire and Mesh Specifications
WIRE ZINC COATED:
All tests on the wire are performed prior to making of the mesh.
Tensile strength: all wires used for the manufacture of gabions, have a maximum tensile strength of500Ν/mm2 equal with 500 MPa according to ΕΝ10223-3 and ASTMA641/A641M-03.
Elongation: the test is made on a sample of no less than 300mm long. Elongation is not less than 12%, on a specimen of minimum 250mm long according toΕΝ10223-3 and ASTM A370-97a.
Zinc coating: the amount of zinc is determined in accordance to ΕΝ10244-2 (Class A)- successor of BS 443:1982- and ASTM A641/A641M-03, Class III soft temper coating.
Adhesion of zinc coating: the adhesion of the zinc coating to the wire- when the wire is wrapped six turns around a mandrel having four times the diameter of the wire, it does not flake or crack when rubbing it with the bare fingers, according toΕΝ10218-1,ΕΝ10244-1 and ASTM A641/A641M-03.
WIRE ZINC95% ALUMINIUM 5% COATED- TYPE GALFAN:
The same standard applies as or Zinc coated wire and the values are common. It should be noted that Zn95% Al5% wire is darker than plain zinc coating as a result of the aluminium alloy.
Research, laboratory tests and applications of the wire testify its superiority again zinc coated wires, as its corrosion performance is outstanding and has roughly triple life time than the zinc coated wire.
WIRE POLYVINYL CHLORIDE COATED:
The properties of thePVCcoating are according toΕΝ10245-2andASTM A975-97paragraph8.2.
PVC durability is determined with laboratory testing- exposure on artificial light (ISO4892-1), salt spray test (ISO9227),resistance to humidity(ISO6270),resistance to humid atmospheres containing sulhur dioxide(ISO3231)and exposure to natural weathering(ISO4607)- as specified in theΕΝ10245-1.
In degeneration test byultraviolet light and attrition, PVC coating has minimum calculated endurance 60years when tested according toUL 746B (Polymeric Material-Long Term Property Evaluation)for ageing test according toASTM A975-97
